October 19 In Portland, Maine

Pulled into Portland, Maine just a bit ago. Its 38d. 
My visit to the doctor in the Medical Bay on the ship shows I have an upper respiratory infection so he gave me prescription-strength Sudafed and said use my Chloraseptic for sore throat and Halls cough drops. Told me to eat more since I hadn't been eating much, and more pastry. 
Last night after dinner I stopped and took a photo of the display with the dress the Duchess of Cambridge wore when she christened this ship 5 years ago. 
Now I’m waiting for my Sudafed and Advil to kick in so I can dress and get breakfast and we'll see if I'm up to walking around Portland but we spent 4 days here a few years ago.

I decided I’m staying onboard again to rest. Still coughing bad and so tired. Nothing close by the ship in short walking distances either. I’m saving myself for tomorrow in New Brunswick, Canada. We have a paid tour there.

For our long-awaited vacation after 2 years, we decided to take a cruise up the New England coast and into Canada. The Princess cruise line, the Royal Princess, offered a 10-day cruise out of New York, stopping in Newport, RI; Boston, MA; Portland, Maine; then onto the Canadian ports of St John, New Brunswick; Halifax, Nova Scotia; Sydney, Cape Breton; Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island (PEI), and then down the St Lawrence River into Quebec City.  OCTOBER 13/14 New York- Manhattan, Times Square, Rockefeller Center   We arrived in New York late Saturday night and stayed at a Marriott Courtyard in Manhattan, near Times Square.   On Sunday we planned to walk around to Times Square, Rockefeller Center, and Rockefeller Tower. October 15- New York, Ellis Island & Statue of Liberty

OCTOBER 15 New York Ellis Island & Statue of Liberty   We spent an amazing day at Ellis Island & the Statue of Liberty. I was having problems walking and keeping up with the group so our tour guide got a wheel chair for me and we took elevators, always at the front of lines. Nice but embarrassing.  We took the boat over to the Statue of Liberty and inside we got to see the original flame that had been replaced, to see how big it was. (photo of our guide Nick w/ it behind him) They had replicas of the copper face and feet to see the actual size and the beautiful workmanship. The copper of the entire framework was the thickness of a couple coins and the design was hammered into the back, using the repousse method. The statue is hollow with a metal framework inside by the same designer of the Eiffel. Tower. October 27 in Quebec City

We decided today to buy a ticket for the hop on-hop off bus to go around the city and find where we wanted to visit. It was 26d when we started with icy winds, warming up to 34 but with that wind chill it sure doesn’t feel warm. I have to wait each day until we get back to the hotel to upload my reports and photos to Facebook. Just got back from our drive around the city of Old Quebec on the hop on bus and got to listen to the history on earphones on it. I love how quaint it all looks, and then up against the modern buildings surrounding it. It reminds us so much of the walled fortress of York every time we go under another stone gate.  We started right out in front of our hotel which is across the street from the Saint Jean (John) gate, which is carved into the top.
