October 26 - Quebec City
October 26 -Quebec City
The next
morning, we disembarked from the ship and stood out under a canopy for 1.5
hours waiting for a taxi with all the other passengers. It took that long for
3500 people to get out of there, and during that time we had more snow
flurries. Welcome to Quebec!
We’re
staying for two more days and were booked into the Quebec City Marriott
Downtown, where we’re right across the street from St Jean’s Gate, one of the
four stone gate entrances to the old city. Squee!!! They were doing a lot of
construction repairs on the different buildings and walls so it was hard to get
any decent photos.
We asked one
lady to take a photo of us but her hands were so cold she was shaking. So
sadly, as Cindy says, it looks like a water color.
After
settling in, we went looking for lunch and found Pub St Alexandre. We ordered a
sandwich of smoked meat, something we had in Montreal a few years ago and
loved. Its what we called corned beef but its smoked rather than salty, and so
very tender. Kind of like a pastrami on rye
We walked
around for about an hour but the slight uphill roads and slanted sidewalks were
wreaking havoc on my knees. It was 34d and we stopped to warm up with some hot
chocolate at Chocolato, where there were people coming in to get ice cream, of
all things! We had flavored hot chocolate and mine was raspberry but I think I
would have preferred a straight dark chocolate instead.
We went back
to the hotel to warm up, rest up, and unpack. Later we asked for reservations
at Le Ristorante II Teatro across the street from us. You mostly have a choice
of French, Italian or Chinese food here. We thought the maître d’ made our
reservations but on arrival, they were booked solid due to people eating here
prior to attending the theatre behind it. The hostess called the manager and in
about 20 minutes he found a tiny table in a corner upstairs overlooking the
main floor and we had a wonderful meal of Margarita pizza, plus an excellent
dessert. This had strawberry mousse inside a hard chocolate casing.
