October 13/14- New York Manhattan, Times Square, Rockefeller Center

For our long-awaited vacation after 2 years, we decided to take a cruise up the New England coast and into Canada. The Princess cruise line, the Royal Princess, offered a 10-day cruise out of New York, stopping in Newport, RI; Boston, MA; Portland, Maine; then onto the Canadian ports of St John, New Brunswick; Halifax, Nova Scotia; Sydney, Cape Breton; Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island (PEI), and then down the St Lawrence River into Quebec City.
OCTOBER 13/14 New York- Manhattan, Times Square, Rockefeller Center

We arrived in New York late Saturday night and stayed at a Marriott Courtyard in Manhattan, near Times Square.  On Sunday we planned to walk around to Times Square, Rockefeller Center, and Rockefeller Tower. We had breakfast around the corner at L' Adresse, kind of a Frenchie place. I had Puff Croque Madame, a puff pastry with Gruyere cheese, ham and egg.
We headed down to Rockefeller Center, watching the Mexican Columbus Day Parade as we went, and then watched the ice skaters at the Center. Then over to Radio City Music Hall and Rockefeller Tower, where we walked on a tour there at The Top of the Rock, where NBC Studios is too. We were way on top of the building for a 360 d view of Manhattan, Central Park, and the Freedom Tower. Now sitting and resting my knee indoors watching the skaters again and sipping hot chocolate from a French chocolate store. Stupid me, I walked out of our hotel room wearing my slip-on tennis shoes that I live in at home, and not my stabilizing Merrell walking shoes. Not making it easy for myself. It was 58d that day and very windy, and a nice relief from our hot weather at home.

We took a break inside the center and had some hot chocolate from a French chocolate store to warm up, and Howard brought back a box of their chocolates for us.
Look, NY taxi cab shoes!

We headed off to have New York Italian for dinner at Tony’s DiNapoli. It was right next to a bunch of theaters, showing Frozen, and Carole King's Beautiful. Too bad we're not here longer so we might be able to see a show. At the restaurant the dishes come in family size, and we really should have only ordered one and shared, but we got meat ravioli, and spaghetti w/ giant meatballs. Desserts were the same; Howard ordered a plate of minis, and I ordered Tiramisu. Way too much.

Walking back to our hotel and we saw the Empire State building all lit up. It looks like it’s about 2 blocks over but Howard said it’s more like 6 blocks.
